In northern Italy, students at CUOA are getting ready to enter the workforce as they finish their master’s degrees. I interviewed two students, Pierguido Morsanuti and Giorgio Pistillo, who told me about their struggles to find a sutable career in the competitive workforce of Italy.
Pierguido is an economics major at the university. At 25 years old, he had achieved his law degree only to find that there were no opportunities available for prospective lawyers. He decided to work towards his current degree at CUOA as he saw there were more opportunities available to people with a more business-oriented background.
Giorgio is a 29-year-old marketing major. After working for some time in a manufacturing plant near Vicenza, he decided that he wanted more out of his life and pursued his education at CUOA. Giorgio hopes to one day use his skills to find a career he loves somewhere in Italy.
A recurring theme of the interview was the contrast of old and new. In the northern part of Italy, where CUOA is located, the workforce is more conservative – Giorgio cited that businesspeople were more conservative and unwilling to adapt to changes commonly sought by the newer generations entering the workforce.
Because of this more traditional mindset in their area, both Giorgio and Pierguido expressed a desire to find their dream jobs in Milan – a city of opportunity, free from the dull and restrictive mindsets of Vicenza. There were no specific companies mentioned, only a concern for a company’s quality of life and sustainability measures. They both want to work for a company that they feel cares about them as employees and the world at large.
They had chosen CUOA for its practical skillsets and business connections. They cited that many Italian universities wouldn’t properly prepare their students for entry into the workforce and that CUOA gave them an advantage; since they would have the skills they needed from the moment they graduate.
Ultimately, Giorgio and Pierguido are thankful for their education at CUOA. They have experienced the rigors working in a city like Vicenza and hope to use their newly acquired knowledge to achieve a future of happiness and prosperity.
